Huawei Announces the nova 2 and nova 2 plus with the Kirin 659

Huawei officially announced the nova 2 and nova 2 plus phones. This time the Chinese OEM decided to ditch the hardware design reminiscent of the Nexus 6P. Instead, the nova 2 and nova 2 plus are designed more like the iPhone.  Given the main market where these two phones will be sold in (China), it’s unsurprising to see such a design given Apple’s immense popularity.

Both phones will feature a metal unibody design that brings to mind the Honor 8. The nova 2 is only 6.9mm thick and has a 5″ Full HD LCD display. Huawei will be packing its in-house HiSilicon Kirin 659 SoC, which is similar to the SoC used in the Huawei P10 Lite. Additionally, the nova 2 will have 4 GBs of RAM, 64 GBs of storage, a 12MP/8MP dual rear camera setup (with iPhone-like optical zoom), a 20MP front-facing camera and a 2,950 mAh battery. Although it’s not a flagship device, it does seem to be a rather solid mid-range phone, especially for those who are interested in a decent smartphone camera.

The nova 2 plus features a larger 5.5″ LCD Full HD screen, 128 GBs of storage, and 3,340mAh battery but is otherwise equivalent to the regular model. Both devices will be running EMUI 5.1 based on Android 7.0 Marshmallow.

Users will have a wide palette of colors to choose from. Phones will be sold in grass green, rose gold, streamer gold, aurora blue, and obsidian black. Pricing information has also been announced. The nova 2 will cost 2,499 RPM (approximately $365), while the plus will obviously run at a more expensive price and cost 2,899 RPM (approximately $423). The sale of both phones will begin on June 16. People interested in getting these phones can already deposit 99 RPM at vMall. Those customers who will deposit will get a free selfie stick and leather case.
