LG Q6+, Q6, and Q6α Officially Announced With 5.5″ FullVision 18:9 Display and Snapdragon 435 SoC

Yesterday, LG Electronics announced a new lineup of affordable smartphones in South Korea with the launch of the Q series. LG says the Q series is its latest line of powerful, mid-range smartphones that combines premium features from LG’s high-end smartphones with affordable price points.

With the Q series, LG is bringing its FullVision display technology to lower-end devices. The new lineup consists of three smartphones, namely, the LG Q6+, LG Q6, and LG Q6α. Save for the memory and storage capacities, all three devices pack the same hardware under-the-hood. (Note: the term LG Q6 is used interchangeably for all three devices in following paragraphs.)

Continuing the trend of minimal bezels, the LG Q6 comes with a 5.5-inch FHD+ FullVision display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, with the overall design similar to the LG G6, except for a different camera and slightly different back curvatures.

The Q6 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 octa-core SoC, featuring eight Cortex-A53 cores running at 1.4 GHz along with an Adreno 505 GPU. In the camera department, the device features a standard angle 13MP rear camera, while a 100-degree wide-angle camera is placed on the front of the device.

On the software side of things, the LG Q6 comes running Android 7.1.1 with LG UX 6.0 which LG says is optimized to take advantage of display’s 18:9 aspect ratio, though new features and customization settings which we’ve seen on the LG G6.

To light up the display, the Q6 packs a 3,000 mAh non-removable battery. However, it doesn’t support fast charging and it does not have a USB type-C port.

The device also comes with LG’s proprietary Face Recognition technology, allowing users to quickly unlock their device just by looking at it. Unfortunately, the device doesn’t come with a fingerprint scanner.

As for memory and storage, the top-end LG Q6+ packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, the standard Q6 offers 3GB RAM and 32GB storage while the lower-end Q6  comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.

The LG Q6 series will go on sale in key markets in Asia starting next month, with the devices expected to arrive in Europe, Latin America, and North America later on. The company hasn’t provided pricing details yet.
