Samsung Might Release Bixby Voice Features in the US next Tuesday

Samsung’s Galaxy S8/S8+ is a fine phone, and some may go as far to call it an amazing phone. Although Samsung’s software is still a bit of a mess (and that might be an understatement), the device’s hardware puts most devices to shame.

As great as the S8 is as a whole, one feature that’s off to an incredibly rocky start is Bixby. Bixby’s voice features have been absent in the United States ever since the S8’s release, but according to an image on Reddit, Samsung will finally release Bixby Voice is the US next Tuesday, July 18.

The picture below was posted by Reddit user Bixbyguy in the r/GalaxyS8 thread, and it reads as, “The long awaited Bixby Voice launches Tuesday, 7/18. Below are a few tasks we need to complete to ensure we are retail ready!”

There’s no exact confirmation as to where this photo came from, but based off of that, “retail ready” comment, it’s likely that this message was sent to employees at some sort of retail outlet or carrier store. It’s not the most concrete leak we’ve ever seen, but it’s a fairly strong indication that S8 owners won’t have to wait too much longer before they can start playing with Samsung’s fully-realized take on the Google Assistant.

Assuming that this leak is credible, don’t be surprised if Bixby’s voice functions don’t work to the same level as what Google’s been offering for a number of years now. People that have been part of Samsung’s Bixby Voice Early Access Program have reported mixed results, and earlier this month Samsung said that Bixby Voice’s US delay was due to a lack of big data that’s necessary for understanding the English language.

Samsung will be facing an uphill battle this coming Tuesday, and it’ll be interesting to see if Bixby Voice shows signs of improvement since the release of Samsung’s Early Access Program. Stay tuned.
