Xiaomi Releases the MIUI Global Stable ROM V8.5 for the Mi Mix 2

Xiaomi made a lot of headlines last year when they released their first concept phone, the Mi Mix with its incredibly slim top and side bezels. It became so popular that they announced a successor to the phone just last month when they revealed the Mi Notebook Pro and Mi Note 3. Now, the company has just released the Global Stable version of MIUI v8.5 for the Mi Mix 2 and you can download it right now on the forums or through the official OTA notification.

The Mi Mix 2 has taken the idea of the concept they had released back in 2016 and turned it into a full consumer-ready smartphone. It ditches some of the more experimental features that Xiaomi used with the original (such as the cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic technology), and replaces them so standard features work how the customer would expect them to. The Mi Mix 2 has a 5.99″ LCD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2160 x 1080.

You can learn more about the Mi Mix 2 from our hands-on first impression article we did at the launch event the company held in India earlier this week. At the launch event, Xiaomi said that MIUI version 9 was coming soon, but was unable to give a timeframe as to when they think it would happen. For now, Mi Mix 2 owners who are after the non-China experience of MIUI can use the newly released Global Stable ROM of MIUI version 8.5 that was just released this week.

The full version number for this update is V8.5.1.0 NDEMIEF and it is the first Global Stable version of it so there aren’t any changelog details to list here. The folks over at Xiaomi has included download links for Fastboot as well as Recovery and asks that you report any major bugs here. If you are using latest & official MIUI China Stable ROM, then you should receive an OTA update notification automatically, or you can use the Updater application to manually check. Otherwise, you’ll want to manually flash the update yourself.
