OpenKirin Brings AOSP 8.0 Oreo to the Honor 8

While some Honor 8 owners are still waiting patiently for the official Oreo update to reach their devices, others are turning to the developer community for alternatives. The OpenKirin team is well-known within the Honor forums, and it’s released a number of custom ROMs for the Honor 8 including Lineage 14.1, AOSPA, and others. XDA Senior Member XePeleato and the rest of the team recently uploaded their build of AOSP 8.0 Oreo for the Honor 8, and while it’s got some bugs to look out for (namely problems with GPS, cameras, signal strength, and VoLTE), it’s otherwise perfectly stable.

And it’s not too challenging to install. Once you download the ROM from the official link and wipe your phone’s data using a custom recovery, all that’s left is flashing the provided ZIP file, installing Google applications (if you so choose), and reboot. That’s it! You’ve got Oreo.

If you decide to take the plunge, the OpenKirin team humbly asks that you submit bug reports with “as much information as possible.” In exchange for Oreo, that’s not much to ask.
