Xiaomi is bringing iPhone X-Style Gestures to the Redmi 5/5+ and Mi MIX 1/2

The iPhone X is a nearly bezel-less device that lacks a physical home button, which begs the question: How do you get to the home screen? The answer is pretty simple: By way of on-screen gestures. Xiaomi’s introducing similar controls in its bezel-less offerings, including the Xiaomi Redmi 5 and 5+ and the Mi MIX 1 and the Mi MIX 2, in an upcoming software update.

The gestures seem pretty easy to understand — and fairly intuitive. Swiping up from the bottom of the screen to the top sends you back to the home screen, and swiping from the bottom of the screen to the top and pausing for a second opens the recently used apps menu. Swiping from the left or right side toward the center, meanwhile, returns to the previous screen.

The on-screen gestures are a part of the MIUI 9 Global Beta ROM 7.12.28, an upgrade to Xiaomi’s custom Android skin. Other new features will be revealed when the update drops on Friday, according to the company, and once it’s released, it’ll be available for all Redmi 5 and 5+ and Mi MIX 1 or Mi MIX 2 units.
